Product Description
Redefining the styling direction of a genre once again, SiverStone's LC13-E can be seen as an impressive fascia that is both beautiful and purposeful. Behind it, is a chassis offering an extensive array of hard drive / optical drive configuration and excellent cooling characteristic. Among cases that are built on compromises, the LC13-E is the first choice for those who need the most freedom with their HTPC, and now with updated USB3.0 front ports.
- Magnificent front panel design
- Numerous drive configurations possible
- Next generation cooling performance
- Highly compatible chassis layout

As it was going to be on a dozen hours a day running virtual computers as well as serving as an HTPC when needed I also wanted to be able to add more drives to the system and this case promoted that ability. Compared to the thoughtful design of the GD05B I find myself underwhelmed by the details of this case. Below is a quick summary of the pros and cons as I see them followed by other observations which may or may not apply:Pros: - Taller, deeper case allows greater flexibility for aftermarket CPU coolers, graphics cards, and power supplies than smaller HTPC style cases - Several drive trays for options in where drives are placed (more on this later) - Generally solid fit and finish and materials used in case - Attractive fold-down aluminum... The case does look pleasing and is well built. It does disassemble well so you can fit all your drives and fans in. The holes for the optional 80mm case fan are not standard. SilverStone includes the long screws that screw through the fan body and then into the pretapped wholes in the case. You can also add a 92mm case fan in front of the middle hard drive cage with standard fan mounting screws. The only down side to this case is that I just spent about 2 hours troubleshooting this build to discover why it would not power up. Turns out my case has a defective power switch. I had to pull one from a working system to finally verify this. Now waiting on a response from SilverStone to my email. 3 of 4 people found the following review helpful Amazon Verified Purchase This review is from: Silverstone Tek LC13B-E-USB3.0 Aluminum/Steel ATX Media Center/HTPC Case with 2X USB3.0 Front Ports Cases - Black (Personal Computers) This is certainly the most aesthetically pleasing case I've owned, and very well finished, but the cramped quarters when using a full size ATX board makes it difficult to give it a top rating. To get the motherboard in, ALL of the drive bays must be removed. The only fan cooled drive carrier leaves the drives sticking pretty far into the case over the motherboard. I had to make sure the SATA cables were attached to the motherboard before inserting the drive bay, since I would not have been able to get to them afterwards (in fact I started out that way and had to remove the drive bay, connect the cables to the motherboard, then replace the drive bay). Getting the drive bays in was further complicated by the front panel cables, which had a tendency to get between the bays and the bottom of the case. A hemostat would have helped, but I don't have one. Normally I have drive fans blowing in, but the cables behind the face-plate stuck out a little and rubbed on the... Read more |
