Product Description

The Obsidian Series 550D has been carefully engineered for noise reduction. The front and side panels are insulated with sound dampening material, and the hard drive trays and fans have soft silicon mounts to absorb vibration. The top and side panel vents are covered for noise reduction if you're not using them to install your own fans, and even the intakes are angled to reduce air noise. The rigid, stamped steel and brushed aluminum case holds some remarkable technology that makes it easy to build great systems. There's built-in USB 3.0 support, and the drive trays work with 2.5" SSDs. The removable hard drive bays allow customization for extra-long graphics cards and maximizing airflow. And, the easy-access side panels come off at the touch of a button for easy upgrades or simply admiring your work.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great Case - Little Tight, March 21, 2012

This review is from: Corsair Obsidian Series Black 550D Mid Tower Computer Case (CC-9011015-WW) (Personal Computers)
This was my first system build. Therefore I don't have any reference point to compare this case against other cases. Only what I read. I selected this case because I wanted USB-3 connectors on the front panel that could be connected directly to a USB-3 header on the MOBO. I also needed the case to hold an ASUS P9X79 Deluxe ATX MOBO with a Corsair H100 CPU cooler and a Corsair AX850 PSU. Another very important criterion was that the system be very quiet.

If you are one who needs written instructions to assemble the system components into a case, don't' get this case because there are none. Evidently, Corsair assumes that if you need instructions, you most likely should not be building a system.

The MOBO attached perfectly to the case. The case came with all the MOBO support connectors preinstalled. The PSU slid in and fit like a glove. All the cables from the front panel devices were clearly labeled. This made finding the correct location on the MOBO to... Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Case, Lots of attention to detail, March 25, 2012

I bought this case to replace a Coolermaster Cosmos 1000. I moved all the old components into this new case.

I was looking for case that was quiet, looked good, and would last. I live near the ocean so exposed steel rusts very quickly. Every inch of this case is painted black, even down to the provided motherboard and hard drive screws. All of the components fit perfectly, I had problems with other cases and PCI-E cards not lining up with the rear panel. While not absolutely silent, the noise is comparable to the Coolermaster 1000 which also has sound dampening material. The stock case fans are fairly quiet, and push lots of air. The bottom sides of the case have a slick protective plastic covering so you don't scratch up the paint while putting the side panels back on.

Other Notes:
I have an older EVGA X58 FTW3 Motherboard which seems to have the processor a bit higher on the mobo, so the back processor window on this case didn't line up and was not very... Read more

I have used various cases for PC builds and this is the best I have used period. please note that I place noise fairly high on my list of must haves. Everything is simple to install took no time at all. ASUS P9X79 Deluxe, Intel Core i7-3930K, Cosair H60, Cosair TX-750, SanDisk Extreme SSD 480GB, (2) Western Digital 2TB SATA III 7200 RPM Black Drives (RAID) and a GEForce GTX 660. Running Windows 8 Pro with 32GB of G.SKILL 16GB (4 x 4GB) Ripjaws Z Series DDR3 2133 (PC3 17000). Everything fits, I use the PC for software development. Stable as a rock and can handle Visual Studio 2012 without a hiccup!
